Mayor’s praise for soldiers’ sacrifices

THE Mayor of Ballymoney has paid tribute to the sacrifices made by many at the Battle of the Somme.

Speaking at a meeting of the Borough Council, Councillor John Finlay said July 1 was a date to remember those of the 36th Ulster Division and the 16th Irish Division who gave their lives.

“We want to always remember that freedom today was because of their dedication to duty and sacrifices,” he said.

His DUP colleague, Evelyne Robinson, said she fully concurred with the Mayor’s sentiments.
