Man was just over the alcohol limit

Edwardo Jorge Canio Goncalves, Victoria Street, Lurgan, was fined £150 on Friday at Craigavon Court for excess alcohol in blood on May 3.

He was also banned from driving for 12 months but this will be reduced if he completes the drink driver’s course.

At 2am police saw a car in an area where vehicles were only permitted for loading in Portadown.

The defendant failed a roadside test and an evidential test gave a reading of 44. A blood test showed he was just four over the limit.

A solicitor said Goncalves had taken two or three bottles of beer. He was only stopped because he had driven into a road he should not have been in.
