Let children go wild at Dobbies with RSPB

Building on the success of the Little Seedlings Club run for upcoming junior gardeners at Dobbies, the RSPB are holding Sunday afternoon sessions for the young ones every third Sunday of the month.

The first session in January featured the RSPB’s annual Big Garden Bird Watch, with February’s concentrating on fun ways to encourage wildlife to set up in your own garden.

The next session on Sunday March 18 is Springtime Planting for Birds, Bugs and Bees and promises to get all your senses buzzing with games and activities to encourage more wildlife of all sorts in your garden.

“We are delighted that Dobbies have given us the opportunity to work in partnership with them to encourage people to garden in a fun way that will help the wildlife around us, and turn all our gardens in our very own mini nature reserves,” said Colin Graham, RSPB.

“On a larger scale of course it is also great to engage with so many members of the public, young and old where we have all our brand new facilities so close to hand at Portmore Lough Reserve. It is hoped that one of the later sessions will be apart of a Family Fun Day held at the reserve on Sunday May 13.”

The afternoons are split into two sessions 1:30-2:30pm for 4 to 8 year olds and 3:00pm-4.00pm for 8 to 14 years olds.

Parents are asked to stay for the sessions to make these an event that the whole family can enjoy and learn from together.
