Cookstown's Oxfam's shop closed its doors for the last time on September 10, and the charity is putting it down to the knock-on effect of the recession.

A spokesperson for the charity told the Mail it has had a “huge impact” with people giving less away, holding on to things longer and no longer buying as much.

He said: “Over the years the Cookstown shop has supported Oxfam’s work.

“Unfortunately, it has become more difficult to raise these funds in recent times and the shop ceased trading on September 10.

“We would like to thank the team at the shop for their dedicated support throughout the years along with the wider community.”

Donations banks remain at Tesco and QC Fuels.
