Increase in diabetes registered patients

THE number of people registered with diabetes in the Western Trust increased by over 1,000 over the past two years.

The total number of GP-registered patients (aged 17 and over) increased from 10,086 in 2008 to 11,567 in 2010 - a jump of 1,481. Last year the amount of registered patients increased by 767.

The Health Minister Michael McGimpsey revealed the information in response to an Assembly Question.

The Diabetes Register does not include patients' home address so patients have been assigned to Trust areas on the basis of the location of the GP practice at which they are registered rather than the patients' area of residence.
