Imitation gun and drugs: Arrests

Following the search of a property at Altcar Park on Thursday, October 23 police arrested and subsequently released a man aged 33 and a woman (57), following the discovery of a small amount of suspected cannabis and what is believed to an imitation firearm.

Superintendent Mark McEwan said: “Police were in the area carrying out searches to remove drugs from the streets when they were attacked by youths.

“The windscreen of a police Land Rover was damaged and paint bombs thrown at police vehicles as officers then dealt with a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in the Galliagh area. We are also investigating a report that a number of windows at a nearby primary school were broken.”

He added: “Police will continue to work with the local community to keep people safe and deal with issues of concern such as drug abuse and anti-social behaviour. Thankfully no one was hurt last night but this behaviour is simply unacceptable.”
