Ian Paisley MP delighted that Government have done U-turn on caravan tax

The move comes after a long campaign of lobbying from cross party MPs against the decision which was announced in the latest budget.

Just last week Paisley was the only Northern Ireland MP to present a petition in the House of Commons from his constituents opposing the tax and it would seem that the work done by him and other English MPs has finally paid off.

Speaking after the announcement Paisley said:

“This is absolutely fantastic news for the caravan industry all over Northern Ireland. The government may not have scrapped to tax altogether, but 5% is a long way below 20% and the decision will pay dividends throughout the industry.

“I’d like to pay tribute to all the caravan park owners, manufacturers and local communities who got in touch with me during this robust campaign against the 20% VAT. I took their complaints to Westminster and tonight it has all paid off.

“Caravan parks, owners and local communities alike can all breath an enormous sigh of relief tonight in the knowledge that the Government has took on board our disillusionment and objections, and we are now as a result, witnessing the saving of the caravan industry and of local tourism.”
