‘Home Sweet Home’ moves

A new chapter began a fortnight ago on June 12, when Waterside woman Valerie Moore opened her new retail premises at 14 Bonds Street.

For three decades Moore’s Newsagents, and latterly Home Sweet Home, a gift shop, had traded at Strule Gardens in Irish Street, but owing to the lack of passing trade and the decline of customers visiting the locality, it proved to be unsustainable to maintain a retail outlet in the area.

“In years gone by the estate was a bustling community with a variety of retail outlets. Regrettably with the closure of the Post Office two years ago, which subsequently led to the closure of the Day to Day Grocery shop, it was an unavoidable certainty that Home Sweet Home Gift Shop would also have to close and relocate,” said Valerie.

As an individual who believes in positive actions, Valerie viewed this as an exciting new challenge: “The change in circumstances encouraged me to bring innovative gifts into my refurbished premises that will satisfy the taste and demand of all customers. No special occasion has been forgotten, as there are unique gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, engagement, retirement and communion. Plus there is something truly different for that special teacher, or assistant, which requires an adequate gift as a sincere thank you for their long year in the classroom.

“The tempting aspect for every customer is that they will always discover something that will tickle their own fancy. A special something, for some room, somewhere within the home,” she said.

Valerie would like to thank all her long-standing neighbours and customers at Irish Street and invite them, and many new customers, to her premises at Bonds Street.

“I can assure everyone of a warm and courteous welcome to my shop and i eagerly look forward to renewing old acquaintances and especially welcoming new customers and friends to Bonds Street,” she said.
