Health & Safety Executive investigating explosion

The incident happened at a scrap metal recycling plant in the Mallusk Road area shortly after 10am.

It’s understood a gas canister exploded and flew through the window of a nearby office, narrowly missing a woman who was inside the building.

A number of people were injured in the blast.

One person was treated at the scene while two others were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“All we can say at this stage is that we are investigating the incident,” a spokesman for the HSENI commented.
