Golden celebrations for First Broughshane PW

The first of these will take place on Wednesday, October 17, when The Clare Chorale, a renowned 40-member mixed choir from Ballyclare, will present a musical evening at 8pm in the church hall. Singing, under the leadership of its conductor Sheelagh Greer with Darren Baird as accompanist, the choir is committed to making their choral singing an enjoyable time both for themselves and their audiences.

Guest speaker for the evening on the theme “Investing in the next 50 years” will be Scottish native Anna Morison, Home Vice-President of Presbyterian Women, who is an elder in West Presbyterian Church. Admission is free and there will be an offering for PW Mission Fund.

Other celebratory events during the season include a dinner to be held in Logan’s Restaurant, Cloughmills, on Wednesday, December 5, at 7.30pm and anyone interested in attending this should contact Lorraine Kernohan (Sec) on 07759847300 by October 31.

On March 3, next year, there will be a special anniversary service in the church at 12noon when the guest speaker will be Valerie Tweedie, PW President.

It was back in September 1962 that the organisation was founded in First Broughshane by Mrs Strawbridge (wife of the minister at that time, Dr Strawbridge) and her daughter, Kathleen (now Mrs Kathleen Mawhinney). It was then known as the W.M.A. (Women’s Missionary Association) and its first president was Mrs Maria Knox. Since that date its name has changed to P.W.A. in 1971 and more recently to P.W. in 2008.

The ladies of First Broughshane P.W. extend a heartfelt invitation to everyone to join with them on these special occasions and to women in the local area to join with them at their meetings which are held on the 3rd Wednesday evening in the month.

Under the theme this year of “Light of the World”, it is their aim and that of P.W. in general to encourage women to be a light for God’s glory in a society where many are struggling under heavy burdens and are lost without a Saviour.
