God's love is better than chocolate

Some people prefer Galaxy while others stick to Cadbury’s. Whatever the choice is, a piece of chocolate can always change a small part of a grey day into sunshine.

George Cadbury is a very interesting man. He was born in 1839 and his father was a tea and coffee dealer. At the age of 22, George and his brother Richard took over the family business and in 1873 they stopped selling tea and coffee and focused exclusively on chocolate.

However as devout Christians the brothers were not just concerned about their profits but also the well-being of their employees.

In a world of long working hours, the Cadbury chocolate factory work began each day with bible reading and prayers for all. The working day was considerably shorter and they introduced half-days on Saturdays and bank holiday closing. They would seem to have been ahead of their time.

As time progressed the factory became too small so they moved to a site in the country. The site accommodated the workforce and each house that was built had a good size garden so that each employee could grow their own vegetables. They called the place Bourneville.

On the site the brothers also provided football and cricket fields, a huge playground for the children and an open-air swimming pool.

Without the aid of chocolate this world would be a different place. People may be grumpier, perhaps a little slimmer but without their comforter.

Chocolate affects the spirit only temporarily, however, we have the promise of another comforter, Jesus said:

“I will pray the Father and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. The gift of the Holy Spirit is forever not just a temporary life". (John 14 : 16.)

You can take chocolate with you anywhere and eat it anywhere. The Holy Spirit has no physical or geographical boundaries, we can pray in the Spirit anytime, anywhere - at home, at work, or in our leisure time.

So even though some chocolate bars will lift you to ‘Mars’ and others are filled with ‘Eastern Promise’ be a ‘Smartie’ and seek the real Comforter.
