Glengormley Principal looks back on ‘another excellent year’

PRINCIPAL Lex Hayes praised staff and pupils at Glengormley High School’s annual prize distribution on November 15 for “an amazing year of success.”

Welcoming guest speaker Eleanor Lee, Marketing Director of Newtownabbey-based IT firm Northgate, to the event, Mr Hayes said that 2011 had been an incredible year for the school.

Addressing an audience of school governors, invited guests, parents, staff and pupils, the Headmaster said: “This year has been another excellent year for the school. Yet again the GCSE results have seen our pupils achieve at record levels; the number reaching the government benchmark of 5+ grades at A*- C has increased for the third year in succession, while the achievement across the whole ability range at GCSE has also increased to a new record level. The post 16 results in Diplomas, AS level and A level courses have also improved on the results of previous years. I would wish to congratulate all concerned, pupils, staff and parents for their efforts in this, the core function of the school. The staff in particular have successfully driven these academic improvements while simultaneously improving our already successful pastoral system.”
