Funeral home boss jailed

A FUNERAL home manager who stole almost £50,000 from grieving families was jailed for a year on Wednesday (October 24).

Joanne Tumilson, of Burneys Lane, Glengormley, was working as the manager of Houston and Williamson Funeral Home when staff raised concerns about clients’ late payments in September 2008.

Investigations later revealed Tumilson had stolen £49,671.

Sentencing the 49-year-old at Belfast Crown Court, Judge David McFarland told her the thefts represented a breach of trust. The judge said despite her being caught up in the Shankill Road bomb 19 years ago, “I don’t think you can blame a mental health deficit on the past,” he said.
