Fuel thefts on A8 lead to ‘proactive policing’

THE PSNI has increased its presence along the A8 Belfast Road in response to a number of diesel thefts in recent weeks.

The thefts have come as the road is being dualled from Coleman’s Corner up to the Ballyrickard Road in Larne.

It is believed the diesel has been stolen from plant and machinery owned by the contractors and parked overnight.

Police said they are “committed to bringing a halt to these thefts as soon as possible through proactive policing in the area”.

Officers would also ask the public to be particularly vigilant if they are travelling along the Belfast Road during hours of darkness.

If anyone sees anything that they believe may be suspicious they should call 0845 600 8000, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
