Carál Ní Chuilín said: “I very much welcomed the opportunity to meet with Derry and Strabane District Council and discuss the proposal to bid for European Youth Capital 2019. Derry is a dynamic city with an exciting culture and arts offering which will be central in working to secure European Youth Capital for the city.

“It would present a fantastic opportunity to showcase the city’s young people and highlight the positive and vital contribution they make to society.

“It is early days in the process but I am fully supportive of the Council’s bid. My Department will work with the Council to assist in progressing the bid and securing what would be another great accolade for the city and the wider North West.”
