Reports also indicate that it may take the rest of the day to bring the fire at Mobuoy Road under control.

On Tuesday six fire appliances, one aerial platform, a specialist high volume pumping unit and a command support unit attended the scene.

The raging fire had spread to bales of recycled waste.Efforts to control the blaze were initially hampered because the bales were close to the entrance of the plant.

Residents in the area had been advised to keep their windows close to offset the potentially harmful effects of smoke rising from the fire.

More than 30 employees were evacuated from the plant after the fire broke out.

The roof of the plant has also collapsed.
