‘End the madness’ plea after beating

AN East Antrim MLA has appealed for calm after a man suffered a brutal beating in Larne.

It is understood that the victim was taken behind a garage in Doric Drive by a group of men before being attacked with hammers and baseball bats just after 9.30pm on Sunday, October 30. He was treated in hospital for a suspected broken leg.

Ulster Unionist representative Roy Beggs condemned the incident and said: “The recent spate of assaults on individuals and on property in Larne is of concern to the entire community. To attack anyone with metal weapons is barbaric and could easily disable someone for life.

“I would call on the local community to help end this madness before someone is injured for life or even killed. Anyone with information on any criminal acts should advise the police to enable them to bring those responsible to account.

“We must all be reliant on the police and our courts, or else we risk entering a violent jungle.”

Detectives in Larne are appealing for anyone with information about the attack to contact them on 0845 600 8000.

Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
