Diversity calendar not a glossy tourist effort

A LONDONDERRY community relations officer says a calendar aimed at celebrating the rich diversity of life in the city is not ‘targeted at tourists or presenting a glossy marketed image of the city.’

Sue Divin, Community Relations Officer with Derry City Council described the calendar as being ‘of the people and for the people.’

She commented: “This is not a calendar targeted at tourists or presenting a glossy marketed image of the city - the images are often of community events and everyday people in everyday local places.

“It shows the richness of diversity here and gives you a positive feel for inclusion and culture through the eyes of amateur photographers who entered the competition.

“Our thanks go to everyone who took the time to submit a photograph into the competition and engage in the process - this initiative couldn’t happen without you.”

Six thousand free copies of the calendar will be distributed locally before Christmas. Copies will be posted to schools and community groups and (while stocks last) members of the public can call in to pick up a copy at Derry City Council offices – either at Strand Road or at the Shared Future Centre in the Waterside from December 10 onwards.
