Disgust at attack on young family

The property at Warren Park Drive was broken into and completely trashed while the family was away on holiday last week.

Their furniture, including a baby’s cot, was extensively damaged and a death threat - ‘Your [sic] dead scum’ - was painted on an interior wall.

“The back door of the property was broken open and the house wrecked, even the baby’s cot. The residents returned from a week’s holiday to by met by this as soon as they walked in the door with no idea why this would happen to them and their young family,” a PSNI spokesperson explained.

Representatives of the Resurgam Trust said they were “disgusted by the attack on a local family.”

“The people involved in this are nothing but lowlife thugs and we hope they’re apprehended as soon as possible,” a statement on the organisation’s Facebook page said.

Jonathan McMullan, Lisburn SAFE Coordinator, added: “We are very concerned to hear of this cowardly act and the family have our full support at this distressing time. Someone out there knows who did this and I would urge them to contact the local PSNI with all the information they have.”

Local DUP Councillor Paul Porter commented: “I totally condemn what happened to this family and I would appeal to anyone with information about who was responsible to report it to the police.”

Police have confirmed that enquiries into the incident are ongoing and no motive has yet been established.

Investigating officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

“Someone out there knows something about this and we would appeal for you to get in touch with us via 101 and quote serial 579, 19/08/16, and give us any information you have,” the PSNI spokesperson added.
