Disappointment at news

The news of Hanna & Browne going into administration has been met with disappointment across the city.

Chairman of the Lisburn City Council’s Economic Development Committee, Alderman Allan Ewart said: “Unfortunately in today’s economic market and conditions this is all too common a reality that is so difficult for the business, its owners and the understandable worry its employees will have.

“I hope that the Administrators will be able to look at workable situations with regard to employment within the business and go some way in finding a positive resolution, in the face of the situation. It is so important for us all to support our local businesses who offer a first-class choice of goods and services across the City.”

Councillor Stephen Martin commented: “The loss of Hanna & Browne is yet another sign of just how incredibly difficult the retail economy is at present.

“It is my sincere hope that the administrators are in a position to restructure and reopen.”

He concluded: “ At this time the administrators need to clarify what their plans are as quickly as possible for the benefit of all the staff involved for whom I am certain this is a very worrying time.”
