PSNI probe after children ‘shot’ close to play park in NI village

It is understood the incidents happened not far from the children’s play park in Waringstown village near Lurgan, Co Armagh.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police received a report that a number of youths had been shot with a BB gun in the Meadowvale area of Waringstown yesterday evening (October 22nd).

“There were no serious injuries and the item has been seized.

“Enquiries are continuing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1700 of 22/10/20.”

DUP Cllr Mark Baxter said he had liased with police and youth workers after reports that young children had been shot with a BB gun.

Cllr Baxter said: “I’ve had some worrying reports lately of anti social behaviour at Waringstown playpark.

“This was a hard fought for facility and it’s disappointing to see any negative press around it.

“While I understand it’s a very difficult time for young people at the minute with such a lack of activities in the community, it’s not acceptable that people don’t feel comfortable bringing their kids to a play area.

“I’ve liased with PSNI and local youth workers after reports of young children shot with plastic BB’s just yesterday and have spoken to parents.

“Some investment in young people needed and I’ll continue to work on it.”
