PSNI appeal for information after graffiti on the Walls

Appealing for information, Sergeant Cathal Pearce, of the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, said that on Sunday afternoon, police received a report that graffiti had been daubed on the walls at Society Street, close to St Augustine’s Church, as well as at the Verbal Arts Centre.

Sergeant Pearce said: “While the graffiti was not political or sectarian, it undoubtedly spoils one of the city’s great landmarks.

“The damage was caused by red paint from an aerosol spray can between Friday night and Sunday morning.”

Information can be given by telephoning the police non-emergency number, 101, and asking for the Foyle City Centre NPT.

Meanwhile, a floodlight has been stolen and two others were damaged at St Mary’s Church, at Fanad Drive in the Creggan in the Cityside.

Appealing for information on the damage, Inspector Mark Catterson said police would like to speak to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the grounds of the church in the early hours of St Patrick’s Day.
