Grenades, arms and drugs seized in Hawkin Street operation

TWO grenades, drugs worth £20,000 and firearms were among the items seized during yesterday’s police operation at Hawkin Street in the Cityside.

Detectives from the Organised Crime Branch today released details of theitems uncovered during the search operation in Londonderry yesterday.

“At a property in Hawkin Street, police seized three firearms and a quantity of ammunition, two grenades, an electric stun device and CS gas canister as well as suspected controlled drugs with an estimated street value of £20,000,” a PSNI spokesman said.

Meanwhile, at a property in Queen’s Court a four-figure sum of cash was seized and a 35-year-old man arrested at Queen’s Court has since been released on bail pending further enquires.

A 28-year-old man arrested at Hawkin Street remains in custody, the spokesman said, adding that all the items seized are currently the subject of forensic examination.

“Detectives from Organised Crime Branch are continuing their enquiries,” they said.
