Council’s Chief Executive Anne Donaghy revealed to the July monthly meeting, last Monday night, that the “potential” for extra parking spaces had been highlighted to the DRD minister recently in response to an Assembly question.

Stalwart campaigner for the cause, Bannside Councillor Tommy Nicholl said he was “delighted”, pointing out: “I have been pressing for a long time about this.

“I must say Cullybackey Development Association have been very vociferous about this. It’s something we in the village not only need but desire.

People up round the station, especially in Ard-na-Maine are having difficulties because of the parking,” said Cllr Nicholl.

“I can understand people want to use the train but there are no official parking areas there. These spaces will be a great asset to the village and will encourage further use of the train at Cullybackey,” said the Councillor whose remarks were echoed by Cllr. Roy Gillespie.
