Council catches the recycling bug from carpet firm

A council delegation was given a site tour and an inside look at the company’s Net-Works programme which recycles fishing nets into carpet tiles.

Targeting some of the world’s poorest coastal communities, buying the nets not only helps reduce the environmental impact but also provides a source of income for the local people.

The process is part of the company’s Mission Zero target which aims to eliminate any negative impact that the company may have on the environment by 2020. Interface was one of the first companies to publicly commit to sustainability, when it made the pledge in the mid-nineties.

It influences every aspect of the business and inspires the company to continually push the boundaries in order to achieve its goal.

Interface’s Site Manager, Adrian Marks said: “It’s great to have the council supporting the work we are doing both locally and globally.

“We’re pleased to be changing the debate on sustainability and taking the challenge to other organisations and businesses.”
