Community service for Cookstown man who broke window with a beer bottle

A Cookstown man has agreed to complete 150 hours of community service after admitting to breaking a window in his sister’s ex partner’s home - with a beer bottle.

On October 25 last year, at around 10.45pm, Orry McCracken from Castle Court was said to have had a “verbal altercation” with the man before “breaking the [front] window with a beer bottle which he had in his hand”.

The court heard how “there was an issue between his sister and her ex” and that the 24-year-old “had taken a few drinks and got himself involved”.

Before deciding a sentence, Judge Meehan asked “has he made restitution” for the broken window, to which his defence replied “the sum of £60 has been paid”.

Speaking directly to McCracken, Judge Meehan then asked: “Do you agree to 150 hours community service?”

McCracken agreed to the sentence, which was then imposed by the court.
