Castledawson drink-driver banned for five years

A MOTORIST detected driving more than three times over the alcolol limit, has lost his licence for five years.

Frank Joseph McAllister (45), Leitrim Road, Castledawson, admitted driving having consumed excess alcohol on July 21 last year.

McAllister, who did not appear at Magherafelt Magistrates Court as his solicitor said he was receiving treatment for his drinking, was also Conditionally Discharged for two years.

He was given a similar penalty for having no insurance on the same date.

A PPS lawyer said police were called to the Hillhead Road, Castledawson, following reports of a car being driven in an erratic manner.

She claimed the defendant’s vehicle was travelling at 20mph and swerving all over the road.

Defence solicitor Philip Collins explained defendant was trying to turn his life around with the help of his sons. He said McAllister had intention of ever driving again.
