Businesswoman ‘keeps it local’ in planning big day

Sharon Pollock-Wilson, who has run a barber shop in the town centre for almost 30 years, celebrated her wedding to William Wilson earlier this year.

The big day was planned almost exclusively with the help of local businesses, from car hire, flowers, hair and make-up to the entertainment and photography.

“We got married in the Town Hall registry office and had our photos taken at the castle,” said Sharon.

“Anyone who says there’s nowhere to get things in Carrickfergus should just try looking a little it harder. We managed it and all within eight weeks of deciding we were going to get married - on my birthday of all days.”

The special occasion even provided a boost for charity, with the invitations and name cards going towards Macmillan Cancer Support.

Meanwhile, the wedding was one of the last to take place in the old Carrickfergus Borough Council headquarters before its merger with Larne and Ballymena at the end of March.
