Brave Oscar returns home after US setback

BRAVE little Oscar Knox returned home this week after his three-week stay in an American hospital following a failed attempt to tackle the rare form of cancer the toddler has been battling.

The four-year-old Glengormley boy arrived home on Saturday following a 10-hour flight in an air ambulance.

Oscar was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, neuroblastoma, and has been battling it for a year.

His family and friends have undergone a mammoth fundraising campaign to raise awareness of the disease and raise £250,000 to fund his treatment.

However, Oscar could not undergo the planned six month treatment programme in Philadelphia after doctors discovered a problem with the toddler’s heart.

There were times when Oscar’s life hung in the balance after his condition rapidly deteriorated for four days, but he hung on and was deemed well enough to return.

His father Stephen said: “It was just heartbreaking to see Oscar go through so much pain, but we will continue to do everything to help him beat his condition.

“It’s good to be home and Oscar is doing well, we will have to see where we go from here.”
