Ballymacash pupil names new housing development

Clanmil approached the nearby Ballymacash Primary School in search of an imaginative name for the new development of 18 much needed family homes.

The winning name, Brokerstown Meadow, was suggested by Chloe Turtle from Primary 7.

It was one of four names shortlisted from over 50 inventive suggestions by pupils at the school, and was ultimately chosen as the new scheme name by Lisburn City Council.

The three runner-up names were suggested by Peter Crossey, also P7, and Emily Flain and Melissa Patterson, both P6.

Work on the construction of the £2.5 million housing development started in April this year and is scheduled for completion in Summer 2014.

The homes are being built to high energy efficiency and design specifications, including Lifetime Homes and Secured by Design standards, which ensure added security for tenants and flexibility of adaptation if required at a later date.

Clanmil Housing Association was first registered with Department of the Environment in March 1977 with the aim “to be a primary provider of high quality homes at the lowest possible economic rent for everyone in housing need. It is committed to providing an open and professional service, which is all embracing and sensitive to the needs of the individual.”

Since then the Association has provided over three thousand new homes for people throughout Northern Ireland, as well as running a number of residential developments in the Lisburn area, including Seymour Close, Causeway Meadows and Woodbrook,

Clare McCarty, Chief Executive of Clanmil, is delighted with the new name.

She said; “We were delighted by the interest the children and teachers at Ballymacash Primary have shown in our development and very impressed by the standard and range of names suggested. Chloe has come up with the perfect name for the scheme and we’re looking forward to welcoming tenants to their new homes at Brokerstown Meadow next Summer.”

Chloe and the three runners up were rewarded for their creativity with gift vouchers.
