Assaulted member of staff at take-away

And a female with him later assaulted the brother of the injured party.

Lukasz Sadkowski, Woodview Avenue, Portadown, admitted unlawful assault on a male while Angelika Wierzchowska, Bell’s Road Court, Lurgan, also pleaded guilty to common assault on a male.

The court heard that on May 9 this year police went to a takeaway in Edward Street, Lurgan, where the injured party claimed that Sadkowski had assaulted him after complaining about the food that had been served to him.

The victim said he had been hit in the mouth leaving him with pain to his teeth and gums and the defendant made racist remarks towards 
him.

The injured party did not want to take the matter any further and was happy that the defendant had left but he returned and made threatening remarks.

Police located Sadkowski nearby and he was taken to Lurgan custody suite. The injured party attended at the station with his father and brother who was the second injured party.

As he was leaving he was punched on the side of the face by Wierzchowska who also shouted racist 
remarks.

When taken to the custody suite she declined to answer questions and instead laughed throughout the interview.

Sadkowski claimed he had been struck on the chest by the injured party and only pushed him in self-defence.

The court heard that both defendants had indicated they would contest the charges but on the day of the hearing changed their pleas although the injured parties did not attend on the day.

The case had been adjourned so that pre-sentence reports could be obtained.

A barrister representing Sadkowski said his client was disputing the quality of the food he had received but dealt with it in a ham-fisted way. The defendant had alcohol taken.

A barrister representing Wierzchowska said she was shouting in a foreign language and had very limited English. She was angry with alcohol taken.

He added that she wanted to ‘draw a line in the sand’ and move on with her life.

In the case of Sadkowski District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he would defer sentencing, as suggested in the probation report, for four months until February 3.

But he warned the defendant that if there were any more assaults or he got into trouble in any way he would be facing immediate custody.

Sentencing Wierzchowska Judge Bates said she had received a suspended sentence in May for driving matters.

He sentenced her to four months in prison, suspended for two years.
