Allotments plan for Toome village

Plans are in the pipeline to develop a community allotments scheme in the village of Toome.

Antrim and Newtownabbey councillors were informed at last week’s monthly meeting of a plan by the local TIDAL group for a scheme in the village.

In a report from council officers, it was noted that the former Antrim Borough Council had leased land from Dioceses of Down and Connor in 2006, on a 20 year lease, to provide the playground.

Councillors were advised that TIDAL are hoping to use some of the remaining land on the leased site for the allotments scheme.

The group indicated that the site would accommodate approximately 45 plots.

Councillors agreed to approve, in principle, the development of the green space for allotments and garden, subject to TIDAL securing all necessary funding and to the resolution of all legal and financial matters.
