6000 chickens killed in Tyrone farm shed blaze

Approximately 6000 chickens have been killed in a blaze at a large farm shed in County Tyrone.

Firefighters were called to the fire at Crosscavanagh Road, Dungannon, at 10.37pm on Sunday.

Eight appliances from Dungannon, Pomeroy, Cookstown, Portadown, Lisburn and Dungiven attended the blaze, including an aerial appliance, a water tanker and a command support unit.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Services said firefighters worked hard in challenging conditions to prevent the fire spreading and used three jets to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental ignition and the incident was brought under control in the early hours of this morning.
