Ulster Scots announces details of family fun day

The Kingdom of Dalriada Ulster Scots Society is pleased to announce details of their family fun day and highland games as part of their festival.

The activities commence at 12 noon in the Belford Green, Glebe Estate, Ballymoney with Rightly On, A contemporary Ulster Scots folk group from Magherafelt who have played at Stormont and other venues in the province.

Various local bands will also be performing during the day from Vow Accordion, Topp Pipe, Tullaghans, Ballymaconnelly, Dunaghy, Drumaheagles and Toon Fife and Drum, all showcasing the local Ulster Scots talent which is available in Ballymoney and surrounding areas.

Scottish Country Dancers will also feature during the day alongside Fuse fm to ensure musical entertainment is provided during the funday. Various highland games will be taking place from tug of war, wellie boot throwing, tossing the caber and sheaf throwing, for everyone to take part in, so step up and test you strength and ability at the events. For a little easier pace of life, there will be a horse shoe competition. Trophies will be awarded for all events.

Archery which proved very popular last year, also makes a welcome return as does the static police and fire brigade displays.

Traditional Ulster Scots cookery demonstrations take place all day, so freshly prepared, warm pancakes and sodas will be served from the griddle.

Bouncy castles small and large, assault courses, demolition zone and zombing will also commence from 12 noon, so lots of activities to keep children small and big alike amused.

This will be the first time zorbing will be available in the area, so come along and have a go.

All events are free to participate in, and there will be covered marquees and seating available, so we look forward to seeing you and your family at the funday.
