Are you the next Miss Armoy?

ENTRIES have opened for this year’s Harrigan’s Fuels Miss Armoy, which will take place at St Olcan’s Hall in Armoy Village on practice night of the Armoy Road Races on Friday 27th July.

Sheena Munnis, Club member and Miss Armoy organiser, “We wanted to add a touch of local glamour to the Armoy Road Races. We needed a beautiful young woman to give the prizes, along with the sponsors, to the road racers.

“Last year I initially expected only 30 people to turn up and I was bowled over when nearly 500 turned up. The competition is fierce and there are rules and regulations. You have to be unmarried, 18 years of age by 27th July 2012 and not any older than 25.

“Miss Armoy along with the three runners up will be expected to appear at the Race Event on Saturday 28th July 2012 for the whole day, from 9.30am to 6pm. The reigning Miss Armoy is also expected at the following year’s press launch.”

Miss Armoy receives £100 cheque, a voucher from Top Ten Hair Salon in Ballymoney and from Sarah’s Shoes in Ballymoney and a professional photograph taken by the renowned road-racing photographer, Stephen Davison of Pacemaker Photography. Second prize is a voucher from Katrina’s Hair Salon and there are token prizes for third and fourth places.

Kathryn Munnis, 20, tells us what it’s like to be Miss Armoy, “I really enjoyed the competition. I have to say I was not as confident as I should have been and winning has given me the confidence to go and do other things I wouldn’t have had the courage to do.

“I’m just coming to the end of my first year of my nursing degree at Queen’s University and I also work part time for a local hotel. But I’ve now been in a few photoshoots and I won the Miss North West 200 title this year.

“I’d recommend to any young woman to give it a go and enter. It’s lots of fun, there’s great camaraderie and the Armoy Club are a great bunch of people and very easy to work with.”

Sheena Munnis added, “I’d like to thank Harrigan Fuels our main sponsor, without them we wouldn’t have an event. This year we’ve got live music from, The Banned, which starts at 9pm followed by the Miss Armoy competition at 10pm compered by our very own inimitable Liam Beckett.

“The music will continue after the competition until after midnight. There will be a small entry fee on the night for those attending of £2.50, which includes a raffle ticket.

“All entries must be in by the Saturday 14th July 2012. All I need is their name, address and age. They need to email me at [email protected] or call me on 07590 979720.”
