The Alphabeat goes on

POP music darlings Alphabeat were hot property last year and they aim to continue their rise to the top with the release of a new album in March and a support slot with Lady GaGa on her upcoming Monster Ball tour, which will be stopping off at Belfast's Odyssey Arena on February 22.

The Belfast show also coincides with the release of Alphabeat's new single 'Hole In My Heart', which is sure to take the charts by storm.

Speaking to the Star ahead of their Belfast show singer Stine Bramsen said the group are thrilled to be playing in Belfast later this month and are hoping the fans will enjoy the upbeat 90s influences on their new album.

"We play pop," insisted Stine. "It is 100% pop and there are a lot of 90s influences on our new album. We tried to find elements of music we like and we listen to a lot of different music individually."

Following on from the success of their last album, Stine admits the band do feel pressure to make sure the new release is just as successful. "It is important that it is going to do well," she continued, "because we are really proud of it and we think it is even better than the last one. We are really hoping people will get the change of sound and still see that it is Alphabeat."

Being chosen as the main support act for pop powerhouse Lady Gaga has been a great boost for the band.

"We haven't met her yet but I am definitely looking forward to it," said Stine.

"She is definitely the best pop act around at the moment. She does everything 100% and she is really professional. No one knows what is under the mask."

Lady Gaga seems to rate the band just as highly. Announcing that they would join her on tour, she commented: "I really love Alphabeat, they're great."

The Belfast show is already sold out so if you missed out on the chance to catch Alphabeat live, you will have to hold on until the beginning of March and pick up a copy of the new album 'The Beat Is...' instead.
