Showstoppers charity extravaganza

Music lovers are in for a treat this month as the Londonderry Musical Society and the Britannia Concert Band take to the stage of the Millennium Forum to present their acclaimed Showstoppers musical extravaganza.

The show will take place on Friday,, November 25, and proceeds are in aid of First Derry and Long Tower Churches.

This is the 23rd season of the Showstoppers charity concerts which have been performed to great acclaim across the North West and raised over £150,000 for local charities.

The unique collaboration will again be under the direction of the Goodman brothers, with Ken in charge of the Band and Jim conducting the LMS. As ever, the concert will showcase the best of local musical talent with soloists including Joanna Higgins, Donald Hill, Shonagh Lyons, Rionach McGlinchey, Ken Canning and Jennifer Kelly.

The programme this year will include a fantastic collection of show tunes from stage and screen, featuring music from Chicago, My Fair Lady, Mamma Mia, Riverdance, Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables as well as tunes written by Gilbert and Sullivan, Stephen Sondheim and the Gershwin brothers. There will also be a selection of popular classics including Rock Around the Clock, Love Changes Everything and Highland Cathedral. The band will perform a variety of songs medlies of Blues Brothers, Ray Charles and Irving Berlin tunes, as well as You Raise Me Up.
