Say ‘Yes!’ to volunteering

In preparation for the run up to Derry~Londonderry City of Culture 2013, the North West Volunteer Centre is now recruiting volunteers for City of Culture 2013.

Jacqueline Garnon, the North West Volunteer Centre manager, described City of Culture 2013 as “a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to be part of the Derry~Londonderry legacy”.

“The North West Volunteer Centre is dedicated to supporting and promoting community spirit through volunteering. We have been doing this for nearly 30 years and have seen first hand how volunteering has positively transformed both this city and individuals,” she said.

Volunteers will play a critical role in the city by engaging the thousands of visitors and will have the opportunity to be part of some of the spectacular events such as the Turner Prize, Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, Concerts plus many more.

“Volunteering for the Clipper Homecoming Festival was the first volunteering I’d done and I had a fantastic time. It was a pleasure and a privilege to be part of something that made our city great. I can’t wait to volunteer for the City of Culture events next year,” said Sarah Marsh, a volunteer ‘Culture Maker 2013’ team member.

Building on the Legacy left by the London 2012 Games Makers, which saw tens of thousands of people volunteer at the Olympic and Paralympic games, the North West Volunteer Centre is seeking enthusiastic and motivated people, aged 16 and over to get involved in a variety of roles. Opportunities for volunteers’ to become a member of the Culture Makers 2013 team include roles within administration, translation, media, meeters and greeters and branding.

City of Culture 2013 events kick-off on December 31 and is set to attract thousands of visitors to the City.
