Peace Mix Mic Relay hits the Nerve Centre

Young musicians and individuals with an interest in the music business from Londonderry are being invited to attend one of the biggest music events going in the city this month.

The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and the Nerve Centre have joined forces to put out a call for young people aged 16-24 to come along and get actively involved in the ‘Peace Mix Mic Relay’ in the Nerve Centre this Wednesday, 8th August.

The ‘Peace Mix Mic Relay’ has been organised as part of the Peace Mix campaign, developed by the Big Lottery Fund and the New Day Foundation (NDF), which aims to give young people across the UK a voice and the opportunity to help promote peace through music.

As part of the campaign, the Mic Relay tour is visiting music studios across the UK to promote up-and-coming talent from each area and showcase local music facilities that are positive, creative spaces for young people to get involved in at little or no cost.

The event being held in the Nerve Centre music studios, Venue and Cinema which starts at 11am and is free of charge, will give young people the chance to take part in a morning session where they can make a contribution to a unique collaborative peace track that is being recorded by young musicians from across the UK.

This an opportunity for local young people with an interest in music to contribute lyrics, rhymes, melodies, beats or remixes to the track which will be performed live at a special event in London at the end of August.

Spaces for this session are limited so if you want to get involved you need to contact Martin McGill at the Nerve Centre as soon as possible.

Then, in the afternoon, young people will take part in Peace Mix workshops where they can learn what makes the music industry tick.

In addition to all of the sessions above they can also avail of the chance to find out about how to set up their own social enterprise.

When the workshops are completed the participants can chill out and take in an epic music showcase made up of young bands and artists active on the local scene as they vie for the one place available at the ‘Peace Mix Play Off’ staged at the Eden Project in Cornwall in August.

If you’re a young musician or simply interested in the music industry and aged 16-24 from Londonderry and you would like to help record the peace track, take part in the workshops or sit in the audience for the performances by the local acts contact Martin McGill at the Nerve Centre at [email protected]
