Brushes at the ready as schools arts competition is launched

LISBURN’S 32nd Annual Schools Arts Competition was launched this week.

Sponsored by Montupet (UK) Ltd and Lisburn City Council, the competition invites entries for visual art, drama, musical drama, short story, poetry and individual musical performance.

Principal of Friends School Mrs Elizabeth Dickson, in a letter to the Lisburn Arts Advisory Committee thanking them for the opportunities the competition provides, said: “It is very valuable for pupils to have a platform for their creativity and skills in the arts.

“The awards ceremony is also very much enjoyed by pupils and there is a real sense of their pleasure and pride in the occasion.”

Mrs Dickson continued: “As a school we greatly appreciate the prizes awarded to the overall category winners and runners up.

“My colleagues are always very pleased to receive a cheque and the endorsement of their work that it represents.

“The money goes into the budget of the particular department, be that English, Art or Music, and is put to good use in purchasing resources for the pupils.”
