Technical College call for Carrick

The Mayor of Carrick was pressing for a technical college to be built in the town in December 1959.

Alderman T.J Patterson said the Minister of Education would be pressed strongly to see that appropriate steps were taken to have a technical college erected in the town.

One reason why he felt the college was needed was due to the growing population in the area.

“It is clear that with the growing population of both the Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey areas the Minister would be quite justified in approving the erection of a school in each of these areas, and in view of the importance to the community of technical education it is our intention to take the appropriate steps to press this matter very strongly with the Minister.”
