Crab was catch of the day in Belfast Lough
The biggest crab ever caught in Belfast Lough weighed six pounds and had nippers measuring six inches long, according to a report in the Larne Times in 1959.
Despite measuring one foot across its shell, it was netted by James Milliken of Green Street who hauled it to the shore.
It was said to have attracted much attention whilst on display in Charles Hilditch’s fishmonger’s shop at Market Place.
It was bought by a Carrick housewife for five shillings.
