Larne Grammar staged a dramatic second-half comeback to see off Carrick Grammar in Saturday’s Danske Bank Trophy quarter-final.
The eagerly anticpated East Antrim derby at North Road did not disappoint with Carrick setting the tone early on. They blazed into a 13-0 lead before Larne rallied in the second session, going on to win 17-13.
Good work from Ian Woodside paved the way for a Fionn McCormick try to give the hosts a 5-0 lead. McCormick duly added the conversion points and then two penalties for a 13-0 interval lead.
But, as it turned out, Carrick had given everything in the first half and had little left in the tank to hold off a Larne onslaught.
The visitors stepped it up a gear with a superb second-half display. Skipper Alistair Black, Jonny Glasgow and Micah Stevenson all scored tries and Barry Faul’s conversion secured a 17-13 win.
