Carrickfergus Cricket Club have announced the signing of South African professional Patrick Botha for the 2016 season.

Botha, 25, is the captain of the Free State provincial side, and is also a regular in the South African franchise set-up for the VKB Knights.

The Middle Road outfit say all-rounder Botha’s experience will be ‘a vital asset as we seek to firmly establish ourselves as a Premier League club.

Carrickfergus 1st XI captain Iain Parkhill told the club’s website: “We are delighted to have a player of Pat’s undoubted class and experience on board for 2016.

“Pat Botha was the first name given to me back at the beginning of September, and out of the many names I was told about, he was the one I kept coming back to.

“I think this signing is a statement of intent, we are looking to kick on and become a very good Premier League side.

“I would like to give special mention to both Pat and his agent, Rob Humphries of WSX Agency, who have both been a pleasure to deal with throughout.”
