Not to be deterred by the poor weather in January, members of East Antrim Harriers started the year in racing form.
On January 23, 10 members ran the Baird Cup Cross Country club handicap, a six-lap race around Six Mile Water Park in Ballyclare.
After some close racing Gary Davison claimed first place, followed by Tim Khanna in second and a very strong third from Jim Finlay.
On Sunday (January 31) the Harriers travelled south to Dublin to take on the AXA Raheny 5 Mile Road Race.
This has now become an annual outing for the Harriers and the club, officials and friends had in excess of 30 runners enjoy another memorable day out.
The race, now in its 32nd year, is one of the most popular in the country and attracts quality runners from the four corners of Ireland.
In a field of over 2,700 competitors, the Harriers had some success with Bertie Grimason claiming first in the vet 80+ category (1:12.31) and Sam Crawford taking second in the vet 50+ category (28:40) and also leading the club home.
The remaining members’ times were: Ross Mercer (29:38), Gary Davison (29:40), Billy Reed (31:18), Chris Collins (31:56), Michael Allen (32:50), Jim Finlay (32:54), Larry McAteer (33:57), Andy Liddle (34:13), Martin McMillan (35:55), Jack Morwood (36:54), Tim Khanna (37:10, Eddie Blayney (39:15), Norman Caughey (42:08), Christine Shields (46:26), Elaine Maxwell (49:33) and Rosie Thompson (55:52).
