It may have been penned with tongue firmly in cheek, but Carrick Rangers have congratulated the mighty FC Barcelona on their own treble success.

Luis Enrique’s side added the UEFA Champions League trophy to the Copa del Rey and the La Liga title by defeating Italian giants Juventus 3-1 in Germany on Saturday evening.

Carrick may not have tasted Eurpoean football since the 1976-77 season, but they also completed a treble of their own this year, winning the Irish League’s Championship 1 title, the Steel and Sons Cup and the Intermediate Cup.

And when Xavi, Messi, Saurez, Iniesta, Neymar and co. lifted the Champions League in Berlin, the Dankse Bank Premiership new boys wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations to @FCBarcelona who have replicated our achievements by completing a treble this evening!”

So far the tweet has received 22 retweets and 16 favourites on the social media platform.
