The Swifts were resolute in defence until Ciaran Caldwell finally broke their resistance in the 73rd minute.

A lack of cutting edge in the final third was one point of concern for McAree, who conceded his side did not deserve to win the game.

“By no means did we deserve to win the game, but I thought we held a good shape for 90 per cent of the game,” he said.

“We restricted Glentoran to half chances, but we switched off for one minute and lost the run of Ciaran Caldwell and we paid the price for it.

“We lost runners and didn’t pick up our men, after defending so well.

“We didn’t create enough or pose Glentoran any problems, that was the disappointing thing.

“We didn’t do enough in their defensive third, but I was happy with the players’ effort.

“At the end of the day it is about winning games of football, and we didn’t do that today. We have to turn our possession into something a little bit more positive.

“So that is something we will work on and try and improve on for Wednesday’s game against Ards.

“Like I said, there are positives to take from Saturday’s defeat so it isn’t all negative.”
