New Carrickfergus training base for former European middlweight boxing champion
Evolution Boxing Club has welcomed another high-profile fighter to its growing stable of Carrickfergus-trained professional fighters.
Conrad Cummings said he feels “recharged and regrouped” as training is well underway in the town ahead of his ring return on November 13 in the Europa Hotel in Belfast.
The Co Tyrone man has linked up with the Evolution Boxing Club and rejoins old camp mate from previous years, current British Superfeatherweight champion Anthony Cacace, who has enjoyed recent success and pointed to the support received locally on his runs along Carrickfergus seafront a contributory factor.
Cummings, who is a former two-time European middleweight champion with a record of 17 wins and four losses, had officially announced that he will make his return to the ring signing a management deal with Manchester based Kieran Farell recently.
Speaking in an interview with IFLTV, Cummings said: “I have worked so hard, relentlessly and quietly behind closed doors over the last 18 months to make this happen.
“The pandemic was good to me giving me time to evaluate and realise just what I want and what I need to do.
“My baby girl gives me immense motivation, I’ve only turned 29 and I have plenty in the tank.
“I am in a good place now with a different mindset, different drive, different lifestyle, different motivation.“
Cummings says he has “never felt better” and he is determined to fulfil his potential in this next chapter of his career.
“Conrad has the profile to attract tempting offers if he can return to winning ways,” says local coach Iain Mahood.
Could it be the perfect partnership under the Carrickfergus coach who led Anthony Cacace back to a carrer best performance only time will tell.
One thing the coach is confident about is if he can get Conrad back firing on all cylinders then the Coalisland man will be a force in the super middleweight division.
