Earlier this year, true crime docuseries Tiger King exploded in popularity, making it one of the most talked about TV shows on Netflix.

Now, Tiger King is reportedly coming back for a second season on streaming site Netflix.

This is everything we know so far about the second season - and the biggest questions that need answering from season one.

When will the second season drop?

Most details about the second season are yet to be announced, but there is one reportedly in the works.

Netflix secured the rights to a follow up, but an exact air date is still to be released.

According to reports, it’s unlikely that we’ll be getting a second season until at least 2021.

What will season two be about?

A second season will likely see Joe Exotic try to clear his name, as he has maintained his innocence this whole time.

The second season would also likely look into the fallout of Carole Baskin being handed the Exotic’s big cat zoo as part of legal proceedings between Exotic and Baskin.

Exotic had previously transferred the park to his former business partner, Jeff Lowe, and his mother several years ago in an attempt to keep it from being claimed by those he owed money to.

Baskin sued Exotic (real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage), stating that the zoo had been illegally transferred to Lowe and Shirley Schreibvogel (Exotic’s mother) to prevent it from being seized by his creditors, Baskin included.

According to documents which were posted online, US District Judge Scott L Palk found that the transfer had been made to “remove [the zoo] from the reach of Big Cat Rescue”.

This claim was held up in court, which resulted in the zoo being granted to Baskin.

Exotic had been ordered to pay Baskin $1 million (circa £800,000) for copyright infringement, because he had used logos that resembled those of Big Cat Rescue.

Instead, Exotic granted Baskin control of the land in lieu of payment.

However, Baskin might not even appear in the second season of the show, with the big cat enthusiast telling Radio Times that “no amount of money” could convince her to return.

She said: “No one has asked me to participate in a second round of Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, and there is no amount of money that would cause me to trust the producers again after their sick betrayal of the animals and me.

“I wasn’t paid the first time around, although several people have come forward saying they were paid. That violates the very nature of a documentary along with so many other things that were stages and taken out of context.”

Questions that need to be answered

The first season of the true crime series boasted twists and turns that viewers could not anticipate coming.

The result, however, meant that a lot of questions were left unanswered.

There are five of the biggest questions that need to be answered in season two when it drops.

Where is Carole Baskin’s missing ex husband?

One of the biggest mysteries that came out of the first season of Tiger King was the story about Carole Baskin’s missing ex-husband, Don Lewis.

Throughout the first season, Exotic is convinced that Baskin murdered her ex-husband, a claim that Baskin and her new husband strongly deny.

New information regarding Lewis’ disappearance could come to light, as his family put up a $100,000 reward for those who have information regarding the case.

The Lewis family also hit Baskin with a lawsuit, demanding answers for his disappearance.

Will Joe Exotic get out of prison?

Exotic was found guilty of plotting to murder his nemesis Baskin, as well as charges for illegally killing endangered animals at his park, and found himself sentenced to 22 years behind bars.

Ever since, he has been trying to get himself out, through a variety of methods, including reportedly filing a $94 million lawsuit against the government for civil rights violations and seeking a pardon directly from American President Donald Trump.

What’s going on with Doc Antle’s mysterious cult?

Another major storyline from the first season of the show was about another zoo owner, Doc Antle, who maintained some questionable relationships with the women under his employ.

A former apprentice, Barbara Fisher, told the documentary makers that she had been pressured into getting breast enlargement surgery whilst working at Doc’s zoo.

Fisher also detailed gruelling working hours and unsettling sexual relationships between Antle and the staff, with some equating it to a cult.

What happened to the zoo after Baskin took control?

As previously mentioned, Baskin was granted control over Exotic’s zoo.

Jeff Lowe had taken ownership of the zoo, but he and his team were handed 120 days to vacate the property and hand over the 16 acres of land, cabins and vehicles to Baskin following the ruling in June.

Did Jeff Lowe set Joe Exotic up?

While Exotic was convicted of attempted murder for hire by a jury, there appeared to be a lot of evidence to suggest that Exotic was not solely responsible for his crimes - and that his former business parter Jeff Lowe could have framed him.

Lowe provided recordings and evidence that ultimately gave the FBI enough proof to convict Exotic.

Over the course of the series, the show appears to frame Lowe as a conman who successfully tricked Exotic into signing over ownership of his zoo.
