But even if you don't own a Switch, there's a lot to look forward to, including a return to the Half-Life universe.

Here are the best looking games coming out in March 2020:

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX

Nintendo Switch

What is it? What if you woke up one day, and you were a Pokémon?

That's what Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX aims to deliver, allowing you to building a rescue team to take on mysterious, changing dungeons and strategically plan your moves as you venture forth to make the Pokémon world a safer place.

As you recruit Pokémon, these trusty teammates will need somewhere to stay, so build rescue team camps to house, manage, and strengthen your Pokémon friends.

What is it? 2015's Ori and the Blind Forest was an absolutely beautiful, atmospheric 2D puzzle-platformer that was nothing short of enchanting. And this eagerly-anticipated sequel looks just as mesmerising.

You once again play as the cute guardian spirit Ori, as the game world unfolds in the fashion of a Metroidvania, with new movement abilities allowing access to previously inaccessible areas.

Happily, Gareth Coker is returning to compose more spellbinding music too, while the gameplay is mooted to have added depth.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Nintendo Switch

What is it? Animal Crossing is one of Nintendo’s most relaxing series, casting players as a newcomer to a rural town inhabited by cute, anthropomorphic animals.

Through the completion of everyday tasks like farming, delivering items for fellow residents or socialising with in-game characters, players carve out a virtual life.

New Horizons will follow a similar format to previous games in the series, but the big difference is that you're not a newcomer to a new village, but instead the first visitor to a deserted island.

Doom Eternal

PC, PS4, Google Stadia, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

What is it? The sequel to 2016's Doom reboot, Doom Eternal aims to deliver the "next leap in push-forward, first-person combat", according to Bethesda.

2016's game reintroduced fast-paced shooting to a genre that was slowly stagnating in slow-paced, cover-based military shooters, and introduced the 'Glory Kill' system.

Doom Eternal looks to expand on these systems, and the gameplay trailer shown off at this year's E3 saw many demons meeting grisly ends.

Half-Life: Alyx

PC

What is it? The announcement of a third full game in the influential Half-Life series of first-person shooters was so long awaited and so seemingly ignored by developers Valve that it had become something of a running joke between fans.

In late 2019, we finally got the reveal gamers had been waiting for, although in true Valve fashion, it wasn't quite as simple as 'Half-Life 3'.

Instead, Half-Life: Alyx is a virtual reality experience that takes place before the events of Half-Life 2, and sees you take control of Alyx as she and her father Eli fight the occupying alien Combine.
